Wan Cheng Liu is now the
Director and Founder of Amur Institute for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.
The son of a peasant Dian-qi Liu, father, and Gui-lan Wang, mother, he was born in Mulan County, Heilongjiang
Province, China on 26 May 1950.
He entered primary
school in 1958 and after graduating from middle school at 18 years of age, he worked at a machine factory as a Turner. At the age of 23 he enrolled into Traditional Chinese Medicine Faculty of Heilongjiang
College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. During his College period, he put out
a hypothesis, “The Ions Are the Essence of Meridians” on the basis of his study of published articles in the field
of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture-Moxibustion. Before graduating
from the College, he developed a painless insertion needle method, i.e. to flick the end of the needle with the finger. He graduated from Heilongjiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1976 and
was awarded a Master Degree in Medicine from Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1984 and Doctor Degree
of Medicine from Nanjing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1990.
Since 1976 he has worked
in Heilongjiang Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine as Physician, Physician in Charge, and Chief of Clinical Acupuncture
Department. He was the co-author of “A Running Commentary on Compendium
of Acupuncture-Moxibustion” published in 1985 and has been awarded the first class achievement by Heilongjiang Provincial
Health Bureau for “On the Excitement of Propagated Sensations along Channel” in 1985; a Scientific Achievement
Citation Acupuncture”. From this research, a new physiological system of
menstruation of Traditional Chinese Medicine was introduced by him and a best therapeutic method was developed. The new System consists of “Brain-Kidney-Uterus-Menstruation, Chong, Ren, Du meridians”.
Professor Liu has published
more than 20 articles and attended many international acupuncture Conferences and Symposia.
His two works “A Practical Handbook of Filiform-needle Puncturing Techniques” and “Acupuncture Treatment
of Functional Uterus Bleeding” were published in 1990. He is now the member
of All China Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Vice President of Harbin Society of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and in
1993 he was promoted to Medical Professor and was invited by the Hungarian-Chinese Association and Hungarian Society of Acupuncture-Moxibustion
as a Foreign Professor to teach their students and treat patients.
On 23-26 November 1987, he
was invited to attend the First World Conference on Acupuncture-Moxibustion sponsored by the World Federation of Acupuncture-Moxibustion
Societies, WFAS in Beijing, China. At the Conference he had presented “60 Clinical Cases of Acupuncture Treating
Functional Uterus Bleeding” which was highly valued both by experts and scholars.
On 20-23 November 1993 the Third World Conference on Acupuncture held in Japan
invited him as a member of the Chairpersons Conference.
Professor Liu often obtains
magical curative effects when he treats patients in the clinic, earning a reputation as a miraculous doctor and godlike acupuncturist
in China.
He married Zhang Xiao-bin, an associate professor and acupuncturist in 1977, and has a son. In his leisure time he likes to read Chinese classical literature and poetry.
